After the fall of 1965, the war on the ground in South Vietnam fell into a repetitive rhythm of gnawing communist winter-spring offensives, punctuated by major allied search-and-destroy operations. Forces of the Republic of Korea and Australia joined the fight, along with smaller contingents from Thailand and New Zealand.
