Flooring for a workbench

Spilling paints, solvents, and glues on your workbench is almost inevitable. After about a year or so the top of my workbench looked like it had been used as a paintball target. I installed a laminate floor in my kitchen earlier this year and had some left over planks. The thought occurred to me, why not use this stuff to create a new top for my workbench? The surface is super hard and virtually immune to any paint, solvent (including lacquer thinner), and most glue spills. It’s super easy to keep clean and is relatively cheap. A case of nine 6" x 54" planks cost me about $26 at a discount store. That’s roughly the price of an average-size self-mending hobby mat. Of course, I still do all my cutting and painting on a mat.

Oh yeah, my workbench looks pretty classy now!
