Figure painters and modelers from across the world gathered in Schaumburg, Illinois, in October for the annual contest of the Military Miniature Society of Illinois.

Master-modeler Andy scratchbuilt this vignette of the U.S. 29th Infantry Division during the Battle of Saint-Lô.

Brett’s 75mm Templar Knight comes from Medieval Forge Miniatures. He painted it with Scale 75 and P3 acrylics.
Geoffrey Waller | Tinley Park, Illinois
Geoffrey painted Stormtroopers’ 120mm Crimean War Scots Fusilier Guards officer with Vallejo acrylics, then mounted it on a hand-made base.
Jack Muldoon | East Patchogue, New York
After priming, Jack base-coated Dolman Miniatures’ 75mm New South Wales Lancer with acrylics. He finished the Boer War soldier by shading and blending with artist oils.
Ron Leker | North Little Rock, Arkansas
Ron improved Games Workshop’s 28m Devil Doctor with a scratchbuilt weapon, then cast a replacement head in clear resin to reveal LED lighting behind it.
Stephen Mallia | Pieta, Malta
Stephen scratchbuilt this 54mm train artillery driver from 1797 Hanover. After applying black primer, he painted it with acrylics and shaded with pigments.
Tom Williams | Frisco, Texas
To finish Young Miniatures’ 200mm Saracen bust, Tom layered Scale 75 acrylics on the clothing and wet-blended artist oils on the flesh.
