From the publisher:
Developed from the underperforming twin-engine Manchester, the Avro Lancaster was the RAF’s most successful heavy bomber of World War II, forming the backbone of Bomber Command during the large-scale night bombing campaign against occupied Europe. While Britain was unable to hit back on the ground, the Lancaster enabled Britain to take the fight to Germany. Its success meant that it was produced in massive numbers with more than 7,300 built up to VE-Day.
This compilation relates the legendary Lancaster’s history, strengths, weaknesses, and combat performance as a symbol of British resistance before going on the offensive against Germany in bombing attacks such as the famous “Dambusters” raid in Operation Chastise.

With a chronology that ranges from initial specifications in 1936 to the Royal Air Force retiring its last Lincoln in 1963, this compilation provides a summary and multiple detailed views of the Avro heavy bomber. Previously published titles by Jon Lake (Lancaster Squadrons 1942-43 and Lancaster Squadrons 1944-45), Robert Forczyk (Bf 110 vs Lancaster), and Richard Marks (Avro Lancaster) are combined in a 5.25 x 7.75-inch handbook that should leave room on your workbench for a four-engine heavy bomber.
