Manufacturer: ProModeler, Revell/Monogram, 8601 Waukegan Road, Morton Grove, IL 60053, phone 847-966-3500
Comments: Injection molded, 61 parts (1 vinyl), decals.
Ground equipment for World War II aircraft dioramas has been scarce.
ProModeler's is the first injection-molded set from a major manufacturer. The kit provides an American tow tractor, British and German refueling carts, American and German bomb carts, and a British starter cart.
The gray plastic parts are easy to build, and you can finish each item in less than an hour. ProModeler's instructions feature photos of the real items, exploded-view drawings, and step-by-step assembly sequences. Watch out, though, for part No. 68. The bomb crutch for the German cart should be installed on the end of the arm, not as shown in the assembly drawing. Check the painting guide drawing and the photo on the first page of the instructions for proper location.
If you're handy, you could find ways to mount the tow arms so they can be turned at different angles for variety. I painted with Floquil, AeroMaster, and Testor Model Master enamels. The white, red, and black decals went on well and responded to mild decal-setting solution. A little pressure from a damp paper towel squeezed out air bubbles trapped underneath.
The finished pieces look great sitting next to models from my collection. Modelers of all skill levels will think of plenty of applications for these accessories.
